Rowena arrived at the foster home in 2012, she was just 11 years old but was already a mature child with great goals. Unfortunately, her biological mother could not take care of her and after the death of the child’s father she moved for work, leaving Rowena and her sister with an aunt. Soon the aunt also had financial difficulties and so it was decided to entrust the two girls to Isla ng Bata to be able to guarantee them food, education and care that would otherwise have been inaccessible to them.
Growing up, Rowena became a studious, curious and very empathetic young girl. Sweetness and commitment have always distinguished her and, after graduating, she chose to follow her dream: to help other girls who, like her, had a difficult childhood.
Just last year, Rowena finished her studies at Silliman University in Dumaguete to become a social worker and a few days ago she also passed the exam to qualify for the profession, which she is now ready to take. We are truly proud of her, of her journey, of her achievements and of the fact that, despite the difficulties, she managed to achieve each of her goals, without ever getting discouraged.
No goal is impossible and self-confidence and confidence in one’s own possibilities is what we always try to convey to our girls. Rowena now lives with her family, once again reunited in a home that, thanks to the donations received, we were able to build to guarantee her greater autonomy and independence. We are certain that her great passion and personal experience will make her a prepared and attentive professional and we will always be at her side to support her!
